Shelties available for placement are listed on our page of AVAILABLE DOGS. Please be aware that most of our Shelties are not advertised; they are in foster care until ready for adoption, then matched with one of the pre-screened applicants on our waiting list.

SPECIAL NOTE TO POTENTIAL ADOPTERS:
Every year we take in 12 to 15 adult Shelties to foster and place in permanent homes. The average age of our rescue dogs is from 4-8 years old; it is not common for a Sheltie puppy to come into Rescue. If you have your heart set on a puppy, please visit American Shetland Sheepdog Association’s website, https://www.americanshetlandsheepdogassociation.org for more information on breeders .
The more specific you are about your dream Sheltie and your family's likes and dislikes, needs, and lifestyle, the better the match we can make. There are never quite enough 2- to 3-year-old, perfectly mannered little sable Shelties to go around, but we always seem to have a wide variety of 3-9 year-olds of every size, color, shape, state of health, and disposition. The life expectancy of Shelties is often 14+ years; even though older Shelties may only have few years with you, those will be precious years full of love and gratitude. After all, it's the love that we share while we are alive that makes living worthwhile.
Don’t give up on us! Be sure to let us know if your circumstances change, and don't be shy about staying on our radar. Call us, email us, don't hesitate to let us know you are still interested and still waiting. Your dream Sheltie may be just around the corner!
We wish to thank the wonderful people who have opened their hearts and homes to these Shelties, many of whom just need a second chance in life. We also wish to thank those who have donated to Sheltie Rescue throughout the year! Your donations make it possible to obtain needed veterinary care. If you would like to make a donation, please make your check payable to NorCal Sheltie Rescue and send it to Gale Ann Morris, P.O. Box 581934, Elk Grove, CA 95758. NorCal Sheltie Rescue is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation and your donation is tax-deductible.
